What causes foot odour?

Foot Odour is most often caused by bacteria on the skin reacting with moisture (sweat) to release unpleasant odour.

Bacteria multiply - particularly in warm weather - so that even after washing your feet or using a typical foot deodorant, the odour will not disappear because the bacteria are still present.

Bacteria are present all over the skin and are essential to maintain healthy skin flora. However, the feet contain many active sweat glands, which help to regulate body temperature.

Although sweat is odourless in itself, once mixed with natural bacteria on the feet, unpleasant odour can result.
